The Best Free Shopify Apps

The Best Free Apps for Any Shopify Store

This quick article is going to dive into the best free Shopify apps for any Shopify store! If you read my article on how to set up a Shopify store or have recently launched your own, this is the article for you!

One of the main resources Shopify has at its disposal is the “App Store”.

The app store is loaded with different apps that can simply improve your store with a few clicks. There are thousands to pick from and for some, it isn’t so easy to find the golden apps.

Like many of us in eCommerce, I included, are not 100% certain about our store, about our products, our niche, eCommerce in general and, if we want to invest any more capital than the monthly Shopify fee.

We want, no we need, validation of it all.

How do we obtain validation? For many, it’s sales.

After reading this article, you’ll have a full list of some of the best free Shopify apps to help you build, save and, in the meantime validate your store.

Make Money Online with Shopify

Let’s break it down by category!

To Start;

The Best Free Shopify Apps for Email

Everyone needs an email application.

Collect those emails!

Some may say email is dead. And I hate to say it, but all those people are flat out wrong.

In any online business, collecting emails is a must. An email list gives you the ability to talk directly to an audience that has already shown interest in your brand. I would say, that is quite important and don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise.

Klaviyo

Klaviyo RobertBotto.com

Klaviyo, in my opinion, is the greatest email application for any starter business. The fact that it is free, to this day, blows my mind, honestly.

Why?

Klaviyo gives you the ability to

  • Segment audiences automatically – Unbelievably Powerful!
    • Examples of Possible Segments?
      • People who abandoned their carts in the last “X” days
      • People who purchased a product over “$X” or, under “$X”
      • People who opted in for your newsletter
      • People who purchased 1x, 2x, 3x, etc.
      • The options are endless and again, unbelievably powerful. Splitting your customer who has spent more money than the people who spent less or only cheaper items can as you imagine be very powerful.
  • Email people who only opened or clicked certain links within your emails, thus creating powerful email funnels
    • What do I mean?
      • Someone opens your first email flow. IF they opened your email, send them email A IF they did not open your email, send them email B. Bringing each user along on their own journey.
  • Create automated email flows. What is an automated email flow? This is easily defined as an email or a sequence of emails that is triggered once certain parameters are hit from someone on your site.
    • Example of an automated email flow?
      • Abandoned Cart Sequence – Someone who comes to your site, adds something to their cart, goes to checkout enters in all their information (including email) in the information area and then, for whatever reason, decides not to purchase.
    • Example email flow that will follow for an abandoned cart?
      • 24 hours later – email A goes out
      • 48 hours later – email B goes out
      • 72 hours later – email C goes out
  • Send out mass emails
  • This is a standard feature for any email app you will find. Giving you the ability to send out mass emails to the people who opted into be emailed. This also is Klaviyo’s only downfall. You are only eligible to send out 250 emails at once for free.

This is where my next free email application comes in;

MailChimp

MailChimp RobertBotto.com

The solution to Klaviyo’s 250 max send limit. MailChimp, one of the popular email management systems available allows you to send out a whopping 12,000 emails to 2,000 subscribers before having to pay!

Yes, that is quite a lot more than Klaviyo.

Yes, this is an app, however; I do not suggest actually installing it, but something a little different.

My suggestion? Collect all your emails in Klaviyo, and when you’re ready to send out a campaign or, schedule a campaign, use the list you have on Klaviyo with MailChimp.

Mailchimp brings you a very intuitive and easy platform to utilize for sending emails with all drag and drop ability.

The downfall of MailChimp is they lack the ability to easily setup email automation flows. And for you, an eCommerce owner, that is vital. Ensuring to have your abandoned cart sequence live is a must to try and capture those people who were a click away from purchasing your product/service.

The Best Free Shopify Apps for Ad Feeds

Everyone wants to get their product in front of the right person. And in eCommerce, a lot of the time when starting out, no one knows who the hell you are. What’s one way to change that? Advertisements! Wohoo!

Ad feeds are what gives you the ability to advertise your products via Google, Bing, Facebook, Instagram, rabble rabble etc. etc.

After installing these apps, you will be that much closer to bringing your product to the world and showing them off to the hungry consumers that are ready to buy them!

Google Shopping

Google Shopping App Shopify RobertBotto.com

This application will make your life, with Google, a lot fuckin easier. Take my word for it. Google shopping is the perfect application to send your product to the #1 search engine in the world, Google.

Take my word for it. Google shopping is the perfect application to send your product to the #1 search engine in the world, Google.

So what exactly does this app do? Let me explain briefly and easily.

Google Shopping automatically pulls what products you have listed on your Shopify store and simultaneously creates a feed for you. Once published, every new product you add or delete will automatically be adjusted to fit your new feed.

Once published, every new product you add or delete will automatically be adjusted to fit your new feed.

If you want your products to show up on google, this feed is a no-brainer for your business. How to get your products on a Product Listing Ad or a PLA will be a different article.

FB Feed

Even though Google is #1 in the search world, FB has billions of people utilizing the platform, daily. And that number isn’t dwindling by any means. Not only this, FB also ensures they are tracking literally everything you do on

Not only this, FB also ensures they are tracking literally everything you do on its platform. Yup, it’s true. They know probably more about you than the Government.

Yup, it’s true. They know probably more about you than the Government.

They know probably more about you than the Government.

So why would I want to include my products on a FB feed?

If you are selling low ticket items that are sub $100-$150, than FB can be your number one platform for sales. Why low ticket? Because you are in the spontaneous purchase realm.

Why low ticket? Because you are in the spontaneous purchase realm.

Because you are in the spontaneous purchase realm.

The best part about FB is the ease of use. How intuitive it is to actually use their ad platform. Unlike Google, where you sometimes feel like you are completely out of control and want to rip your hair out, FB leaves you in the driver seat and their ad platform helping you navigate to the perfect customers.

I won’t get into the capabilities of FB ads in this article, but; know that they are as powerful, if not more powerful than Google when it comes to bringing targetted users to your site.

Even if you are not advertising or are selling high ticket items on your store, still, download this app, add your products and be as active as you can on FB. If you think I should write an article on how to manage

If you think I should write an article on how to manage a FB for a “boring” niche like furniture, let me know in the comments! I’d be more than happy to write one up.

I’d be more than happy to write one up.

Simple Google Shopping Feed

Google Simple Feed Shopify App RobertBotto.com

This app, I personally have never used. So I am taking information that has been passed along to me by fellow colleagues and dropshippers.

But after hearing about this app and the positive reviews from my trusted associates, I truly believe this app will be added 100% to my arsenal over the other.

It may be all preference, however; this is another option for you.

Simple Google Shopping Feed simply gives you a feed URL. Which from there, you are able to schedule when Google Merchant Center will fetch the data in your feed. Thus, you are in control, unlike the Google Shopping app, listed above.

There are a few more steps to get this one going and, if you are looking for a one click install, then I would suggest the first Google Shopping app I listed.

This app allows up to 50,000 SKUs which is great & automatically will show inventory statuses of products that may be out of stock. This also gives you the ability to limit what products are shown by word as well which is quite a nice feature.

From the looks of it, they have fantastic customer support and urges users to contact support for anything that may not be too intuitive.

If you have tried this app or do at some point, I would love to hear more about your experience! Share in the comments!

The Best Free Shopify Apps for Trust Badges

So what the shit is a trust badge? Well, to visualize, it’s like the image as you see below (add

Well, simply put, it is usually an image of some sort that brings your site from scammy and in question if it’s even real to a trustworthy store that a person feels safe putting their credit card on.

It is a text, image or, app that can help consumers feel safe when browsing your site.

As it may be, this won’t significantly increase your CTR, however; it will give the impression that you are a trustable business. Hence the name “Trust Badge”. Original, I know!

Hence the name “Trust Badge”. Original, I know!

Original, I know!

These anymore are now a must and luckily there are free apps that help you get into the habit of having them before you spend any real money.

McAffee

McAfee Shopify App RobertBotto.com

McAffee is hands down a great simple app with a trusted brand that can be added in just a few clicks.

What will you get for free?

500 visitors to see the badge and then after that, it will simply go away until the next cycle starts. Each cycle is a month duration, so if you are just starting out, this is the perfect app!

They even help with directly linking your site with their brand;

You have the ability to place the app in certain areas and by clicking on the badge as a consumer, it brings you to their branded site. Showing the customer that your site has no malicious software or anything along the lines for a person unfamiliar with your brand to worry about.

Perfect.

So, in a day and age where people are stealing whatever they can online; a lot of people need as much comfort and security as possible before they check out.

Trust badge can be that additional level of buyer confidence.

Trust badge gives you multiple options in to customize directly for your site. Example being, “SSL Certified Site”, a simple icon for your return policy, 100% satisfaction and more.

All a customer has to do is hover over it, and they are able to see the detail on why your brand and site can be trusted.

Trust badge also gives the availability to place the bar along certain areas of your site and customize what is to displayed on the front end of your site too.

Simple, intuitive powerful and, yup, free.

Sales Pop

Social proof is another form of Trust when selling online. Showing that others are interested in your store and have bought let’s people know they aren’t the first one to purchase.

Showing that others are interested in your store and have bought let’s people know they aren’t the first one to purchase.

Showing that others are interested in your store and have bought let’s people know they aren’t the first one to purchase.

That their card is safe because all these others have purchased, I am ok to purchase as well.

Another way to look at this app is,

People want to purchase from a store that looks popular and “alive”. This app shows people that people are purchasing and items are flying off the shelves.

You are able to pull data from any time frame too so it always looks like people are on your site and purchasing.

The Best Free Shopify App for Exit Intent

Every store should be collecting emails.

I would love to have a conversation with someone who believes email is dead. But that is for another post.

I truly believe a strong email list a foundational asset of every eCommerce business.

With that being said, there are different ways to collect emails from users who come to your store.

One method is called “Exit Intent”. What is it?

This method simply explained is when the user/person who comes to your store drags their mouse to the top section of your site, implicating they are looking to either create a new tab or close out your site. A trigger event occurs called an “Exit Intent”.

If you’ve been on almost any eCommerce store, you have seen these people.

The “Save 10% Off Your Next Order – Simply Enter Your Email Below To Get the Coupon!” box that pops up, usually in the middle of your screen.

These are honestly, really effective methods to collecting emails and that is why it’s important to utilize one of these apps below for your store.

Privy

Privy Shopify App RobertBotto.com

One of the most popular exit intent exit intent apps on the Shopify app store.

There is a reason for it;

With easy integrations, a simple interface and, the ability for simple customization, this app can easily be added to a site within 30 minutes or less!

Spin a Sale

Spin a Sale Shopify App RobertBotto.com

A new unique exit intent that has literally just been released!

Welcome to the Wheel of Fortune of Exit Intents!

This app has a free version that works great for anyone that is looking for something different.

This app is one of the first interactive exit intents ever(There is a paid version called Wheelio that will be included in another post!)

What happens that’s so different?

Instead of a box showing up on a site, asking for an email in return for a coupon or whatever it may be; this app draws down a wheel that once you enter an email, actually spins!

The wheel consists of a handful of different coupon options and then some slots that leave a user with nothing too! It’s a fun and interactive way to capture emails.

There is a paid version that adds a ton of customization, such as weighted options on landing on certain coupons and what not to land on and more.

I would 100% suggest at least testing this as an option on any store owners site!

The Best Free Shopify App for Screen Recording (BONUS)

So screen recording, haaaail screen recordings. This powerful feature is exactly what the title says. An app (website) that records the screen as a consumer goes through it.

YES! Powerful!

I only can recommend one free screen recording software and, even though it’s not an app, I wanted to ensure I shared this powerful service. Mainly because there is paid app (LuckyOrange) that actually is an app. Wouldn’t be fair of me not to share this with you!

So what’s the damn site, Rob?!

The site is called HotJar.com

HotJar RobertBotto.com

HotJar records a whopping 2,000 users a day from landing on your site till exit all for free.

It’s glorious, I know.

You are able to see what consumers are clicking on, if they’re viewing your videos, zooming in on photos, how they’re interacting with certain pages, literally anything.

It’s as if you were just chilling next to this person as you showed them your site and weren’t able to actually talk or verbally hear what they have to say.

That interwebs ninja shit, ya know!?

But seriously,

Changing one variable on your site can be the difference of 1% conversion and 4% conversion. Growth hacking has never been easier by simply aligning the data you’re collecting with that one alteration and, what you’re visually seeing as people interact with your change.

So how the hell do I get this on my site, NOW!?

All you have to do in order to gain these superhero online powers (this software) is add a few simple lines of code under your <header> on your theme.liquid and you’re now a web ninja! WOHOO! Life goal complete; becoming a ninja – check!

(HotJar has a really good how-to as well for when getting started, so don’t worry, the force is strong in you!)
